A lighthouse is a guiding light

A lighthouse is a powerful image, standing strong and tall amid the crashing waves of a storm. On a boat or ferry, even on calm days or nights, a lighthouse is a welcome sight. Each lighthouse has a unique sequence of flashes and a distinct shape and appearance so sailors know exactly which one they are looking at.

In our area, there are Lighthouse holiday clubs for children during their school summer break. Each day is filled with games, crafts, music, silliness and bible stories. The clubs are run by local Christians to introduce children to God and Jesus.

I recently heard of another group called Lighthouse on the BBC podcast “A very British cult”. People trying to improve themselves, came into contact with the group via self-help books and book clubs. The group seemed attractive at first but became more controlling later.

“I am the light of the world”, Jesus said. “Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.” John 8 verse 12. He’s like the lighthouse guiding us on a safe journey or to a safe harbour.
